The body enforces minimum health & safety and environmental requirements on Disinfectants, which is one of many specifications the body takes care of.
VC 8054
This compulsory specification covers the requirements for chemical disinfectants used for disinfection purposes on lifeless surfaces in all areas of application.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for disinfectants sky-rocketed and this saw various businesses having their claims on being manufacturers of disinfectants and sanitizers. As in every other case, many of whom were just fly-by night companies just more concerned with making profit. For one to sell disinfectants in South Africa, it needs to comply with the above standard which involves a stream of extensive requirements and assessments.
SAFIC is however a proud manufacturer of registered Chemical Disinfectants and have
successfully transitioned to the amended VC 8054:2017 from the phased-out VC 8054:1999.
One of the most critical changes is the Disinfecting Efficacy of disinfectants to have at least 99.999% kill (5 Log Reduction) and not 99.9% anymore.
