Why Safic has implemented and values ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and Responsible Care

The quality of our products and systems, minimizing our effect on the environment, and the health and safety of our staff, customers, and community are very important to us. That is why we have implemented ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. We manage these three systems within the Responsible Care framework.

ISO 9001- a comprehensive quality management system.

ISO 9001 is a well-known and widely used system. It gives us the tools to implement quality management in Safic’s processes and procedures allowing us to maintain quality standards and to continually improve. Safic was one of the first chemical companies in South Africa to introduce the system, so it is a mature system and has worked well for us over the years.

ISO 14001 – a system for environmental management

ISO 14001, an environmental management standard, helps us to protect our customers, employees, and the community. This approach to the environmental management system (EMS) is known as EMS by design, which means that we take a systems approach to implement the EMS, evaluate it, and audit it internally and externally. This allows for visibility, control, and continual improvement.

ISO 45001 - a system for occupational health and safety

ISO 45001 is a unified management system for occupational health and safety (similar to its predecessor OHSAS 18001). With this system, we have a global benchmark for all businesses to follow.

It provides a basis for us to establish and maintain safe working conditions as well as healthy surroundings at Safic. We had the OSHAS 18 001 system for many years and recently we moved to the new ISO 45001.

Responsible Care - our commitment to sustainability

Responsible Care is a voluntary commitment to significantly improving the way the chemical industry accounts for, measures, reports, and ultimately reduces risks from chemicals. By taking part in Responsible Care, Safic along with many of our suppliers throughout the entire chemical value chain agree to share information, develop approaches to reducing harmful impacts, strengthen our governance and risk management capabilities, and commit to continuous improvement of processes. In this way, we strive to contribute towards securing a healthier future for everybody.

We have found these systems to be very effective in assisting us to provide high-quality products that are safe to use in a safe environment while reducing waste and therefore cost. We are always looking to learn and continually improve and these systems form a very valuable framework for us to do it in.
